On Saturday the 20th my wife did her first triathlon. We loaded up about 4:45am with my best friend and another friend Richard and headed to the Tie Dye Tri in Norman Oklahoma. I think I was more nervous than she was and all I was doing is making sure she had what she needed and to take some photos at the event.

Here are her official stats:

Total time: 1:25:41

Swim: 12:49

Bike: 40:30

Run: 28:19

5th in her age group

28th overall out of 95 women

She will tell you that she is not super happy with all of these times (mainly her swim and transition times) but for me I think they are great for her first triathlon. She is going to do more of these sprint triathlon’s and I am excited to see how her times are at the next one. Good job Destiny! I am proud of you and I love you very much. You worked very hard for this and I think you did an awesome job!

Keyth, Israel, Bryan, Kristy and Richard. You guys did awesome too. I am proud of all of you. See you at the next one!

Check out my little hottie working it.

The other day I got to photograph local photographer Paul Wilkes. I will say it’s a little strange photographing someone that does what I do. Paul does some great work and knows his lighting. The whole time I was thinking in my head, I wonder what he would do different if I was the subject. I also wondered if he was like man this is lame.

Whatever we both were thinking I still had a good time. He was super easy to work with and I will give him credit on a few shots where he gave a little input on the position of one of my lights. Next time maybe we will have a little more time and be able to do some outside stuff. Be sure to check out his site

Thanks Paul, I look forward to next time.

A few favorites.

I was recently talking with a friend about people taking photos from his site and posting them on their site, myspace and facebook with no credit back to him. I agreed with him that is was messed up that people were doing that. I mean come on, how hard is it to type the photographer or artist’s name or maybe even a link back to show them a little love.

I think that if you want an image or artwork from someone you should just email them and ask or if you decide to do the right click save method then you should give them credit. That way if or when they come across an image or artwork that is yours you will see that they have given you the respect you deserve.

I know this will always go on and it will be a hard to stop but it is just lame that some people are disrespectful like that. If it was my artwork or photography I would be a little upset. Maybe because I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

It’s been a while since my last post. I have been super busy with work and some side projects. I did get my new site design up. I am pretty happy with it so far. Now it’s just a matter of filling up the galleries and adding things here and there. I added a new cycling gallery. It will be a collection of bike shots with some nice lighting. I am very happy with with the first series of photos.

Paul Wilkes portrait shoot coming soon. Check back for updates on that. It should be interesting. I have never took another photographers portrait. Mark Ryan solo project promo shoot also coming soon.

Look books for GRP FLY Clothing are in reprint with my portfolio promo book. I will post images of them when they are fresh off the press.

Over the past few months I have been geting into cycling quite a bit. I decided to do the bike thing because I hate going to the gym. I recently got a road bike and I am loving it. Before that I had a commuter bike that I liked but I wanted somthing better. Here are some stats from the 2 rides I did this past weekend. Saturday I did about a 50 mile ride with a few other people and Sunday I did 26 miles and my average was up. It was 17.9, my best average to date.

I really wanted a solution for taking my lighting outdoors without having to buy or rent a gas generator for my mono lights so I started looking around and doing some research. In the end I decided on the Profoto AcuteB 600. I will probably get something else when I need more light but I think for now I will be fine with 600 watts since I don’t do a lot of work outside. I do more indoor studio work.

I ended up buying it from B&H. The battery is so small for packing 600 watts. It is very compact and light in weight. I did play around with it a little bit and am very happy with how easy it is to set up and use. This will take my outdoor work to a new level and will be very convenient when I just need to take one light, softbox etc on location. It sure beats having to drive 3 hours to rent some gear.

Yes, I finally put up a site and partial portfolio. This is my new project. Things will evolve over time and I will fill up the portfolio when I have free time. So what’s the purpose of this site? It’s pretty simple really. I need a place to put up a portfolio since I get asked all the time about an online portfolio. I am also going to give this blogging a try. We will see how that goes.

About the design and layout. Being a designer I find it extremely hard to design for myself. I talk to designer friends about it all the time and they feel the same. After what seems like 100 different layouts I decided on something very simple and easy to read. I’m sure things will move around and the layout will change but for now I like it. Clean and simple!
